Whether you were born in Hungary, grew up hearing Hungarian in your home, or you’re discovering your heritage for the first time, this convention is your chance to reconnect with the culture, the music, the stories, and the people who make our community so special.

What is the Hungarian Cultural Convention?
Think of it as a week-long celebration of everything that makes Hungarian culture rich and vibrant. Since 1979, Australians and New Zealanders of Hungarian heritage have been gathering every few years to keep our traditions alive, share our stories, and create new memories together. This year, it’s Melbourne’s turn to host, and we’re pulling out all the stops.
What Can You Expect?
Over five incredible days, you’ll experience:
Music and Dance – From traditional folk dancing to contemporary performances, watch talented performers bring Hungarian culture to life on stage. Join the folk dance seminars led by professional teachers and musicians coming all the way from Hungary.
Food and Flavours – Learn to cook authentic Hungarian dishes at our cooking demonstrations, including Túrós Csusza, and discover the stories behind the recipes that have been passed down through generations.
Stories and Knowledge – Attend fascinating talks on Hungarian history, wine regions, inventors, and the Hungarian experience in Australia. Plus, book signings and discussions with authors who are preserving our heritage through their work.
Celebration – Ring in the New Year together at our spectacular New Year’s Eve Ball, complete with live music, dancing, and the kind of celebration that only happens when Hungarians get together.
Young Talent – Watch the next generation shine at our Young Talent Show, where under-16s will showcase their incredible skills.
Community – Most importantly, you’ll meet people who share your connection to Hungary. Whether you’re looking to reconnect with old friends or make new ones, this convention is where our community comes alive.

Everyone! Whether you’re 8 or 80, whether you speak fluent Hungarian or are just learning your first phrases, whether you’ve been to every convention or this is your first, you’re welcome here. This is for families, individuals, and anyone who wants to be part of something special.
